| The
Umpqua National Forest includes nearly a million acres within the
western slopes of the Oregon Cascades. From the snow of the High
Cascades to the white water rapids, water has formed the forest.
Explosive geologic events shaped the Umpqua's distinctive landscapes,
resulting in spectacular scenery and diverse natural resources. This
provides an excellent area for camping, mountain biking bicycling and
hiking. |

The Douglas County
Parks Department, the first in Oregon, has over 50 parks in the system,
ranging from large facilities with overnight camping to small boat
launcing access points. In addition, Douglas County is home to numerous
parks operated by the U.S Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, the
State of Oregon, and local communities. |
The North Umpqua Scenic Highway is one of the most beautiful highways
Oregon has to offer. Deer and other wildlife abound as well as many
magnificent natural wonders.

There are miles of trails for
hiking & bicycling - biking. At 5,089 square miles, Douglas County is
the fifth largest county in Oregon and the biggest west of the Cascades.
It extends from 9,182 foot Mt. Thielsen to sea level at the Pacific
Ocean. Its many diverse habitats include the entire Umpqua River
watershed, two large lakes, several reservoirs, ponds and bogs, as well
as timber lands, field crops,
orchards, pastures and meadows. |
