The Umpqua National Forest includes nearly a million acres within the western slopes of the Oregon Cascades. From the snow of the High Cascades to the white water rapids, water has formed the forest. Explosive geologic events shaped the Umpqua's distinctive landscapes, resulting in spectacular scenery and diverse natural resources. This provides an excellent area for camping, mountain biking bicycling and hiking.

The Douglas County Parks Department, the first in Oregon, has over 50 parks in the system, ranging from large facilities with overnight camping to small boat launcing access points. In addition, Douglas County is home to numerous parks operated by the U.S Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, the State of Oregon, and local communities.

The North Umpqua Scenic Highway is one of the most beautiful highways Oregon has to offer. Deer and other wildlife abound as well as many magnificent natural wonders.
rafting, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and more!

There are miles of trails for hiking & bicycling - biking. At 5,089 square miles, Douglas County is the fifth largest county in Oregon and the biggest west of the Cascades. It extends from 9,182 foot Mt. Thielsen to sea level at the Pacific Ocean. Its many diverse habitats include the entire Umpqua River watershed, two large lakes, several reservoirs, ponds and bogs, as well as timber lands, field  crops, orchards, pastures and meadows.
